The Brown Trout

The Brown Trout

The Brown Trout is, like the Rainbow Trout found in the United States as well as internationally. The Brown Trout actually had its start as a European and Asian fish, but eventually made its way into the US and is now mostly located in the Rocky Mountains and Midwestern and Eastern states, the Brown Trout can also be found in New Zealand, South and North America.

When it comes to the Brown Trout, most fishermen have a very hard time catching this particular trout for it is extremely smart and is famous for its intelligence and uncanny ability to avoid getting caught. Fly fishermen’s tactics that usually work on the Brown Trout’s cousin, the Rainbow Trout do not normally work on the Brown Trout, for they are a bit smarter than the Rainbow Trout. This can definitely be frustrating for beginner and experienced fly fishermen alike, although it is definitely a rewarding experience when the fisherman finally does capture that Brown Trout!

Unlike the cousin to the Brown Trout, the Rainbow Trout, the Brown Trout has black and red spots versus just black spots and it also has butter colored sides, which is what the Brown Trout is most recognized for. Although, to a lot of people the Brown Trout is not all that attractive, its intelligence and the fact that it can take up to a half hour just to hook the fish can make it seem as if it is the most gorgeous fish ever.

You may be thinking that with the experiences you have under your belt, you will be one of the few people that will have no issues with catching a Brown Trout. You are probably wrong in thinking that, for this little fish is even hard to hook! Let’s say that you do hook the Brown Trout and are feeling extremely proud of yourself, well, when the Brown Trout becomes hooked, this is when its intelligence shines. Unlike the Rainbow Trout, the Brown Trout does not flip in the air unless it is its last resort, instead, the Brown Trout will take off to hit every single obstacle in the stream in order to tangle or snap the line. In fact, the Brown Trout will exhaust itself trying to escape a fishing line and will use every single trick they know to break free.
