Rainbow Trout

When it comes to freshwater fish, the top gun is definitely the Rainbow Trout. Not only is this little bugger one of the most sought after fish by fly fishermen, but it is also one of the most common fish both internationally and nationally. If you are one of the many fly fishermen that are searching for this beautiful creature, they are found all over the United States, the cold water streams of South America, Europe, New Zealand and yes, even down under in Australia.

Now you definitely do not have to travel all the way across the world to find a rainbow trout, the United States hold plenty of them in their waters, one of the main reasons for this is because they are the easiest to transplant into different lakes and streams. So do not worry if you can not afford a vacation half way around the world to catch your rainbow trout, they are one of the most common fish in freshwater.

This particular trout is also famous for its energetic aerial displays and also the lengthy runs it does to keep away from being caught. The rainbow trout is also quite the picky eater – some of the time at least. There are those other times when the rainbow trout will drop its fickleness and eat just about anything and everything.

If you are not an experienced fishermen and do not know exactly what to look for when you are looking for a rainbow trout, it is famous for the red stripe that runs down the length of its entire body. Also, the rainbow trout is one of the only trout’s that have hundreds of black spots around the dorsal of its body. So if you caught one of these beauties without realizing exactly what it was, if it matches this description, you have yourself a rainbow trout!

Now the rainbow trout is definitely not the only type of trout out there, it is however one of the prettiest. The red stripe and black polka dots make for a delightful pattern and makes this little fishy extremely easy to spot.
